Located in the heart of the Pee Dee region, the Freshwater Ecology Center at Francis Marion University is a hub for environmental research, education, and outreach focused on the rich freshwater ecosystems of South Carolina.
The center supports faculty and student research in areas such as water quality, aquatic biodiversity, wetland restoration, and conservation. In addition to its academic mission, the center is deeply engaged in community outreach, offering workshops, youth programs, and public events that promote environmental stewardship and awareness. Through hands-on learning and regional partnerships, the center plays a vital role in protecting and understanding the freshwater resources that sustain both wildlife and human communities.
